Dinajpur is an underdeveloped district in the northern part of Bangladesh. It is underdeveloped because we have not been able to make an overall contribution to the development of this region even though many of our children have made a significant contribution towards the development of our national life. However, our children are still lagging behind others in terms of the number of government cadre and non-cadre posts they are securing under the Public Service Commission. The main reason behind their failure is that we have not been able to spread proper and practical education, and the knowledge of history and geography. Our children are very weak in English and they do riot model themeslves on the learned personalities home or abroad.
In the Anglo-Pakistan Period, and even a decade after the independence of Bangladesh, we were very pround of our paternal properties and assets; but unfortunately, we are almost destitute now because of our properties and assets being distributed and redistributed rzc r. ion after generation. Under these circumstances, we do not want to lag behind others ,ore. But we will certainly not be able to face the challenges of 21st century and ..:ce forward unless we enlighten ourslves with the light of a proper, practical and time fits lig education.
At present, there are two different streams in the secondary and higher secondary eduation in Bangladesh: 0/A Level System and SSC/HSC public examination system. With the former, any student can acquire a good proficiency in English but they have almost no opportunity to learn anything about the customs, culture, history and religion of their own motherland, with the latter, they can learn a lot about their own
costoms, culture, history and religion but they can not acquire a good proficiency in English. As a result, they are being deprived of higher education and also lagging behind others in the competitive and better job markets.
Under these circumstances, Dinajpur Laboratory School and Dinajpur Laboratory College have taken a great initiative to impart native education honestly, sincerely and properly in •„ English so that our student can prepare themselves for the challenges the new millennium. Therefore, any guardian can consider Dinajpur Laboratory School and Dinajpur Laboratory College as the ideal and exceptional institutions for their children to prepare them for the challenges of the modern competitive and rapidly changing world.
